Keeping a competitive edge over competition while maintaining the technical and economic standard of plant up to date as it is requested by customers worldwide, this is the big challenge of all railway construction companies competing in the national and international marketplaces. While the prices for track construction plant are raising all the time, the enormous competition in the various markets around the world leads to lower track work prices and thus much reduced profits. A lead time of over 2 years for a standard tamping machine or regulator or a 3 – 4 year wait for a ore custom built track renewal or laying train produce other big challenges a contractor must face. With usual mobilization times of only 6 – 9 months, new plant cannot be purchased specifically for a job as there is simply not enough time apart from the also very challenging prices for new plant.
